Canada has announced it will impose a 100% tariff on Chinese electric vehicle (EV) imports and a 25% tariff on imported steel and aluminum from China, starting October 1.
This move follows similar actions by the United States, which had previously increased tariffs on Chinese EVs and other goods to address concerns about overcapacity and unfair trade practices.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau emphasized that these measures are part of a coordinated effort with global allies. The tariffs could impact companies like Tesla, which imports EVs from China to Canada. This decision aligns with Canada’s strategy to bolster its role in the global EV supply chain and address domestic industry concerns.
